Mein Blog
Mein Blog
I didn‘t write a blog since nearly one year. But this was no absence. I shifted my energy to two streams:
1st: Twitter, the tiny channel, where you can write up to 280 characters (140 before November 2017). This seems like a small but massive blog, where you can post at any time what your are interested in or what you want to state. In addition you can retweet and like - so your circles can virtually stay in contact with you.
2nd: Instagram, the picture channel, where you can send images and messges to the world (or better to an internet community). What you like or what you want or what you would want like to be will be sent.
Both have an intriguing charm and could be dangerous too. You can reach a lot of people, you can collect followers and likers (maybe also haters). You can use these channels for developing opinions, promoting products or simple communicating everything you want.
The way of interacting is limited. The messages have to be short and simple and you can experiment every day what brings followers or likes. It is about the goals - like in most cases - you have to decide if you are using it for gaining an advantage (followers, purchases, influence) or simple communicating.
I tried to explore these new habits of communication to see how others interact and where could be or should be some borders.
Some dislike these social channels, but it is not about liking or hating but how we are developing our communication strategies. How we want to interact and what we want to say. It is clear that they are part of our (virtual) world. We can participate - but we don‘t have to. But we can‘t be against them.
We have to accept or better to cooperate with these social components which are part of our current communication world. And we have to know where is the point where we have to stop and where are the red lines, which we should individually not to cross: Whenever I am posting I am asking me one question: Would I do this at any place any people can access. If yes, it is ok, if not then it is my opinion but does not have to be public and should not be posted or retweeted.
But there is one thing I am lacking, which is the limitation of information. It is ok, that information is published in limited words or that it is stated sharp and precisely. But that there is the danger that some use it to direct the opinion in a certain direction instead giving the chance to see the topic form different angles. What I am missing is the lack of links to further deeper information.
Both channels could be used for entertainment and for spreading information. Both parts are fine and everyone can chose how much entertainment or information he wants to consume. But if it is information I want to be the one who decides to get more information - otherwise it will be entertainment masked as information. Maybe this is a naive way of thinking but that is one reason why I am consuming newspapers, newsletters and a lot of different other ways of getting information. Twitter and instagram are only two channels beneath a lot of communication tools in the virtual and real world. And it is essential that there is free and independent journalism, which delivers information (and entertainment) on a higher level and with more than 280 characters. Both worlds have its place and shall interact.
So I don´t have a guilty conscience that I shifted to Twitter and Instagram instead of using my Blog, because I learned a lot with and about these communication social channels in the last 12 months. And I think that the extension of these channels with the blog will give the chance to enrich it with additional content or information.
First try is the ONE_PICTURE section on this website, where I am combining all parts. Positing pictures from this decade (2010-2019) on Instagram, spreading it on Twitter, retweeting it with additional information and collecting the summary on this website.
A new way of experimenting, and exploring which gives me energy and should be a small piece to have a critical look to the past and the future.
